1880 City Terrace House 2017

House Notes – 1880 City Terrace House

Optimising cross flow ventilation and passive solar design principles this 1880’s terrace house with a recently refurbished 1970’s extension now works with the climate and requires minimal use of mechanical heating and cooling.

We have retrofitted insulation in our ceiling to reduce the heat/cool exchange, and ceiling fans to purge the heat in summer. Low E glazing on the windows reduces the heat of the summer sun from penetrating the home making the home cooler in summer.

We have installed a solar hot water system and wood fired wetback system to the home, along with a pv and battery system that is grid connected.

Non toxic paints and no carpets have reduced the collection of dust making this home not only energy efficient but also healthy.

Lighting is provided by a low energy Philips Hue system, supported by skylights throughout.
