Comfort, Healthy indoor environment, High Performance and meeting the budget were the key issues we wanted to achieve when designing this home. . Being client and designer in one, we went through few different concepts and shapes to find the most cost effective solution that would work with the site and would position the house in a way that allows for the outdoor areas to be used in collaboration to the interiors. Using ready cut SIP panels in a hybrid way, we have managed to lower the cost of the Build by approx. 10% which was a major benefit in this case. Colorbond cladding that wraps over the first floor and covers the gutters and downpipes was one of the details that we really favoured and carefully planned.Playfulness of textures and finishes, Secret passage on the upper floor and central staircase with exposed OSB acts as a major interior feature and are a great example of how functionality can be linked with the visual perception of the space.

The Oxley House was designed using SIPs modular panels and introducing some Passive House concepts into the project. Keeping the structure light and airtight with double glazed windows and mechanical ventilation. Orientated towards the North it is filled with light with minimal east and west glazing. Additionally Velux skylight located on the southern side let filtered light to the upper floor bathroom and staircase all the way to the Ground floor entry. This also allows the heat build-up escape easily on the warmer days. Excavated topsoil from the previous house slab was contained on site rather then removed and cupolex product was used to reduce the need for creating a new sand pad and replace the engineered fill under the slab. Allowances have been made to connect the house to Pv panels when budget allows and install rain water tank in the internal courtyard for garden needs. Permaculture garden beds in the internal courtyard designed in close proximity to the kitchen for ease of care. ATU unit installed to reuse recycled water for garden irrigation
