The Loft is designed to occupy a very small footprint of 30m2. It is manufactured from Durra Panel, which is made from straw compressed with a resin to form a panel with excellent thermal and sound insulation characteristics.

The house is also double glazed. This is all targeted to deliver a 6 Star energy rating and makes the home very efficient in terms of heating and cooling. The Durra Panel material is capable of being ground up and used as garden mulch at the end of its life.

The home can also operate totally off-grid, with a composting toilet, solar power and rainwater capture.

Designed by NH Atchitects and built by Ortech Industries.
