House Notes – Cudgee Earthship

An Earthship home is a radically sustainable home, using waste products and re-purposing them into building materials to achieve a highly thermal efficient home. Earthship homes are designed as closed loop systems, providing all their own energy and water needs and processing all wastes on site by using natural systems. The design allows for natural heating and cooling and supports food production.

This home is still in the early stages of construction and will include;
– The west, south and east walls are to be constructed with a double tyre wall filled with pounded earth and insulated with recycled compressed styrofoam,
– Steel portal frame,
– Using local waste materials such as tyres, bricks,
– Sustainably harvested cypress timber,
– Composting toilet,
– biogas options are to be explored using local cow manure,
– Initially grid connected but will move to off grid in the future.

Demonstrations of how to build a tyre wall will be the highlight on the day, as well as a talk on the alternative building materials and systems being used.The demonstrations will be dependent on the weather
