Built by Hemp Homes Australia using HempCrete, the interior walls have been left natural inside and exterior is lime rendered using a natural turmeric oxide. This means no paint or nasty chemicals! HempCrete has incredible benefits, including high thermal and acoustic insultation, 50-80% energy saving, breathable, fire proof, bug resistant, mould-preventing, negative carbon footprint, sustainable and zero waste! Our house was grown in 14 weeks, and if ever we want to demolish it (never!) we can push it straight into the ground. HempCrete is good for the body and good for the planet!

Meet Gary from Hemp Homes Australia between 11am-1pm on Sustainable House Day this year.

SOLAR PASSIVE DESIGN
The house designed by James from Ecotect Architects to capture the winter sun and keep us comfortable year-round with minimal energy use. Because of the thermal regulation of Hemp, no air conditioning is needed in summer.

DOORS AND WINDOWS WITH uPVC DOUBLE GLAZING
Our doors and windows provide us with optimal thermal and acoustic insultation to minimize our energy usage year-round  (Thermaglaze WA).

NATURAL OIL
All our wooden surfaces are finished with natural eco-friendly oil and wax (Osmo Oils Australia) so we don’t have any harmful chemicals in the structure of the house.

CLAY PLASTER
Instead of using traditional paint for walls other than the HempCrete ones, they are protected with clay plaster (Rockcote Design Centre Australia). Again, no harmful chemicals and a stunning looking texture!

FILTERED RAIN WATER
Every drop of water in our home comes from the sky! Every outlet (including showers and washing machine) is filtered through an advanced system that reduces taste, odour, chemicals and sediment in the water.

NATIVE GARDEN
We believe in a natural ecosystem, and therefore most of the plants in the garden (excluding the fruit orchard) mirror the bush on the other side of the fence. We hope to attract and sustain the natural flora and fauna of the region.
