Spindrift 2020

House Notes – Spindrift

Spindrift represents a new paradigm in sustainable housing– an ‘Energy Freedom House’. We call it such because the residents have effectively eliminated electricity, gas, and petrol bills; due to the combination of a solar-powered all-electric efficient home, and a long-range EV.

This 3-bedroom, 153m2 home has been rated 8.3 Stars by NatHERS, and was recently the subject of a profile by Renew. This analysis found that this home saves its residents over $5200 annually in energy and petrol bills. It is also a comfortable and beautiful home to live in, with thermal mass provided by pressed local earth bricks, and a unique terazzo concrete slab. The all-electric Hyundai Kona has a range of 450km, and is powered by the solar energy produced by the house.

This home will be one of ten homes open at The Cape for their annual Sustainable House Day Festival

This house achieved a NatHERS rating of 8.3 stars using NatHERS accredited software (FirstRate5). Find out how the star ratings work on the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) website.
