Come and visit our little house of sustainability, Barrett House, in celebration of National Sustainable House Day.
Part of a joint project between Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick Councils, Barrett House is a sustainability demonstration home showing various sustainable technologies and products to suit every size and shape of house and of course every budget.
Pop in on Sustainable House Day to learn about changes you can make at home and new sustainable building and renovation technologies.
Barrett House – the Retrofit
This cottage style house was retrofitted for sustainability in 2009 – rather than opting for one product throughout, Barrett House displays a number of sustainable solutions.
For example, there are four types of rainwater tank in use together with a range of different lighting options – see how LEDs, CFLs and Solatubes stack up against halogen lighting. For your windows, experience the merits of Magnetite vs. double glazing and window tints. Grid connect solar and heating technologies all on show together with energy efficient kitchen units, storage and appliances.
All too much? just rest a while on our worm farm seat and enjoy the cottage permaculture garden and wander through our new foragers verge garden .. you’re welcome to pick and harvest as you go!
