Galaxy Hill 2015

Galaxy Hill

At Galaxy Hill the house is a REVERSE MASONRY VENEER structure.

It is not connected to any services other than telephone.

It is powered by a stand alone PV based power plant.

Fresh water is collected into tanks and waste management is by a conventional septic system.

An attached greenhouse provides ventilation, and scope to grow food. The internal walls act as a heat store and prevent the house becoming hot in summer. As the house is always cooler within, windows are never opened. The stored heat remains in the building until winter and then helps with thermal comfort during colder periods. There is no heater built into the structure. Since the windows don’t need to be opened, ventilation is provided by the greenhouse. Internal drapes sealed across the top by velcro help with additional insulation in winter. External shutters on selected windows are part of fire protection measures.
