GH21 is a good example of how the site determines house design and site layout. This site is tricky due to the orientation, slope, soil type, bushfire assessment and council stormwater requirements. When on site, these issues will become obvious, as will the design solutions.

Now complete, Fiona and Nick and their kids are enjoying all the benefits of living in a sustainable home. Whilst solar access is compromised due to the site conditions, there is still plenty of winter sun finding its way into the home. Winter thermal comfort is guaranteed with hydronic underfloor heating and natural cross and stack ventilation and ceiling fans will take care of any cooling required in summer. The wastewater system is providing irrigation to the whole block and the whole house is on rain water. Fiona and Nick have decided to wait and see what sort of PV system may be required and will look at options down the track.
