Oakey House 2023

House Notes – Oakey House

Built to a modest budget, this 8.9 star home was completed in May 2021. The home features Wagner’s Earth Friendly Concrete, which reduces CO2 emissions associated with conventional Portland cement by 80 to 90% according to the manufacturers. All concrete floors throughout the home have a polished finish which maximises the benefit of thermal mass provided by the slab. Additional thermal mass internally is provided with a feature rammed earth section of wall. Timber framed windows with Low E glass to the living areas help to achieve the high energy rating because of the insulating properties of the complete window assemblies. The room layout ensures that all living areas & bedrooms are north facing for winter passive solar heating. Deciduous vines are growing on the west facing pergola and the north facing pergola to reduce heat gain in summer.

The home will be open to the public on Sunday 19th March 2023. Bookings are essential and can be found via this link https://events.humanitix.com/shd-house-tour-oakey-house
