Sustainable House Day Darwin – Come Along and Experience Sustainable Living in the Tropics – Sunday 20th August 10am – 3pm
COOLmob is again delivering the local Darwin event of the national Sustainable House Day, on Sunday 20 August. Five households in Darwin will be opening their doors to the public between 10 am and 3pm, to inspire and educate others on a sustainable living lifestyle. This is a FREE event but bookings are essential
The aim of Sustainable House Day is for people to experience what sustainable houses look and feel like: homes that use less energy and water, tropical housing design or planting delicious edible gardens, homes built with sustainable materials and who have invested in renewable energy, and in Darwin, especially homes built to keep cool in the hot tropics with minimal energy use.
This year’s event will be very diverse experience of what sustainability can be in the Top End. This year we have a mix of architect-designed homes, renovated homes and homes that are well-lived in over the years.
Visitors will tour each home, see what the homeowner or architect has done to create beautiful, efficient, comfortable tropical homes. Visitors will have the chance to meet the homeowner and ask questions, to learn how it’s possible to create your own sustainable home and garden.
Homes will also feature inspiring and informative talks from sustainability experts on the topics of edible and native garden design, residential solar and tropical architectural design.
