Kingfisher House GC 2024

Kingfisher House GC

The home is designed on residential land in an existing suburb. The clients purchased the land to enable them to develop a more sustainable lifestyle for themselves, and demonstrate the potential of that to others.

The site includes master planning for future provision for higher density. This is done to better use the land in our suburbs. It includes for edible and productive gardens with option for future market stall.

The main home is designed for extended family / intergenerational living / co-housing. Current renovations of an existing granny flat in 2023/24 further enable the land to be well used. A future caretaker’s residence may be possible should the productive gardens need!

The home itself is designed to respond to the local climate with passive solar design, well insulated, tight sealed, double glazing – as well as active systems such as hydronic heating, pv, battery, car charging, all electric home, mechanical ventilation system (rough in for future install), efficient ac system (for better air filtration).

The large central courtyard helps to control the climate through the home: it allows an outdoor lifestyle in inclement weather and to allow both sides of the home to be left open for better cross ventilation.
