Open Your Home for Sustainable House Day 2026

Neighbours inspiring neighbours — one open door at a time

Sustainable House Day returns on Sunday 17 May 2026, and we’re inviting people across Australia to share their homes and their sustainability journey. Whether you live in a house or an apartment, whether you’re an owner or a renter, your story can help others understand what’s possible in their own homes.

You don’t need a perfectly finished project — just a willingness to share what you’ve learned. Real homes and honest insights are what make SHD so valuable. When you open your space, you’re helping neighbours discover practical ways to lower bills, improve comfort, and build climate resilience using solutions that work in everyday life.

Applications open mid-December 2025.

Why Open Your Home?

Inspire meaningful change
Show how you’ve lowered energy bills, increased comfort, improved efficiency, or made your home more resilient to heat, fire or flood — and help others take their next step.

Be part of a national movement
Join hundreds of people contributing their lived experience to an event that reaches thousands of visitors across Australia.

Strengthen your community
Your successes — and your challenges — help others make informed, confident choices about their own upgrades and retrofits.

Choose how you participate

  • In-person open home on Sunday 17 May 2026, or

  • Online-only profile, with photos, key features and an optional video tour

Both options allow people to learn directly from you — and both make a real impact.

Be a Featured Home for Sustainable House Day 2025

Sustainable House Day 2025 is calling for inspiring, energy-efficient homes to join our lineup of Featured Homes. Each and every conversation empowers others to start their journey towards either a new green home, or towards retrofitting their current home to be a more comfortable, energy efficient home with lower running costs.

Whatever your story, we’d love you to share it with others – it’s a powerful form of peer to peer sharing that builds skills in a trusting environment.

Applications closed on Sunday, 23 February 2025.

Why Become a Featured Home?

By participating, you:
