Goulburn Strawbale 2019

House Notes – Goulburn Strawbale

House currently under construction – Please take care on site.

We have always wanted to build a strawbale home that would be thermally efficient in both summer and winter, passive solar designed to make the most of thermal mass and cooling breezes. Design collaboration between us and Grahame our architect to suit family gatherings and open plan living. The home has been designed to be suitable for universal access, hobless showers, wide hallways and large door openings are some of the features we have included.

Many of the materials have come from the property itself (straw, earth and clay), this reduced transport costs, reduced waste and are also making this home healthy for us and the environment around. We have also used various recycled materials including turpentine wharf piers and shipping containers. Our home is bushfire resistant, sound proof and minimal maintenance.

The garden faces north to take advantage of sun’s movement through the seasons. The garden is home to bees and chickens along with an aquaponics system.
