After a long career as a carpenter and builder, Craig made a conscious decision to start building efficient sustainable housing. During the sustainability discovery process he came across hempcrete which immediately struck him as being one of the highest performing walling systems in the world. So when constructing his family home hempcrete was the ideal choice.
Hempcrete walls have a high R Value (R3.5 external wall), fire resistance (FRL 73 minutes), termite resistant and have great acoustic properties. Walls lock in carbon inside the cells of the hemp and using Australian grown hemp makes this building carbon negative thus decreasing our carbon foot print. The end result is a wall that breathes and regulates temperature through the transfer of water vapour into and out of the hemp fibres regulating temperatures.
After having lived in the home for a year, it is the quality of the internal air, consistent ambient temperature, softness of the lime rendered walls and the overall atmosphere created by the breathable walls that make this a healthy home.
