Jeff’s Joint 2015

Jeff’s Joint

We wanted an energy efficient house to reduce future bills and increase sustainability, but also a comfortable and beautiful place to live. We needed to retrofit an ordinary timber, colonial style house set on a 1818m2 suburban block. It is a continual process of small changes and large investments.

The result is we produce more power than we use. We have minimal water bills and cooling costs and “free” heating. It is a house filled with recycled furniture with a strong connection to family history. In addition there is a feeling of community in a small town; sharing tools, equipment and ideas with neighbours, swapping items no longer needed or wanted.

Come and see our fruit trees, vegetable patch, solar panels, solar hot water, rainwater tanks, recycled timber kitchen and cubby house, verandahs and awnings, outdoor shower, nest boxes, recycled paving, mosaics, native garden and a workshop to redesign and repurpose material for the house. We hope you take away some practical ideas.
