We moved to Shepherds Ground specifically to build a hemp masonry home and live off grid. Our home has a small footprint, solar passive design and is made of hemp masonry and recycled timbers. Hemp homes have thermal mass, are fire retardant, water vapour permeable, termite resistant and can go back into the earth at the end of their life. Hemp plants absorb carbon dioxide as they grow and it’s estimates hemp can capture up to 15 tonne of CO2 per hectare and it’s take approximately a hectare of hemp to build a house.
