Melinda’s Flood Resilient Home 2023

House Notes – Melinda’s Flood Resilient Home

Melinda’s home is an example of how a home can be rebuilt with greater flood resilience, after devastatingly being inundated with approximately 400mm of water in 2022.

Some of the key flood resilient design features include:

  • Raising the house 1.2m off the ground
  • Installing hardwood timber (Tassie Oak) vertical panels used on walls to half height.
  • Replacing hollow core doors with solid core doors, many cupboard doors replaced with second hand hardwood timber louvre doors
  • Bathroom has wall hung hardwood timber cabinets
  • Raised air-conditioner motor

These elements correlate with items in the NSW Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation’s Flood Resilient Design Framework, developed to support the NSW Resilient Homes Program.
