This family home, completed in December 2024, was an exciting journey of collaboration with the clients, builder, and consultants.
The clients were inspired by the Goolwa Beach home (StudioRogier). The design brief called for something “different,” resulting in a Beachy-Scandinavian home crafted from local materials. It is highly sustainable, achieving a 7.5-star energy rating. Key features include:
A rammed earth wall and concrete waffle pod floor that function as thermal batteries, maintaining a stable indoor temperature year-round.
PV panels, double glazing, passive heating & cooling, cross ventilation & airflow, heatpump for underfloor heating /cooling.
North-facing living spaces and a large kitchen-dining area with timber ceilings offering stunning ocean views.
A design and construction process that stayed within budget.
This project was a wonderful collaboration between the clients and builder, Danny Holland.
Both Danny (builder) and I priorities strong, functional designs that are built to last for 50+ years, using local materials and minimizing construction waste. Maintaining open communication with clients and stakeholders is key to fostering a positive working relationship.
