Nick & Jill’s House 2025

Nick & Jill’s House

Originally built in 1967, we purchased the two bedroom concrete block walled house with an iron roof on a slab in 1992. Immediately it needed a new roof and flooring. In 1995 we added the bedrooms upstairs with a truss insulated colorbond roof. The swimming pool went in soon after with an extension downstairs into the yard. The 2kw solar was installed in 2008 and evacuated tube solar hot water system at about the same time. Little did we know that even though the tubes were the most efficient they were no match for Queensland hail! Replaced with solar hot water panels and 315 L tank. In 2016 we bought a Phev car and so as to add to the capacity of the PV we got an off grid pool pump panel system that freed up enough power to charge the vehicle on off peak rates.
We currently are putting vinyl no-paint thermal boards on the exterior that should give us cozier and or cooler space inside.
Even though we still have a gas cooker it is on the outer as we cook mostly with an electric oven, air fryer and rice cooker. Hopefully an induction cook top is on the way!
The long and the short is we don’t pay for electricity, a small amount for gas and petrol only if we take longer trips.
