Sustainaburbia – 31 Burridge Way, Hamilton Hill
Welcome to Sustainaburbia! Our 1960’s brick veneer house provided many challenges to retrofit to be more sustainable and energy efficient. We are located on the south side of a hill with a beautiful gumtree to our north (which we cant bare to chop down) and to start with we had no north facing windows. Since we bought the house in 2002 we’ve made heaps of changes – come and have a poke around!
We have a louvered pergola, 3.1kW grid connected solar PV system (half north facing, half west facing) provides as with power and Solarhart system for hot water. A 14,000 litre rainwater system is hooked up to whole property we also have a Greyflow greywater system.
We have a productive gardens with vegies, 20 productive trees/vines and chooks plus a water wise native garden. We have hot and cold composting, fridge worm farm and dog poo worm farm. Our garden was featured on Gardening Australia, episode 2 2013.
Recently we added a small studio space and a large outdoor deck area under a louvered pergola. Shady in summer, sunny in winter!
We will be talking on our favourite subjects during the day:
10.15am – Amy on home composting (yes, you can do it!)
11am and 2.30pm – Adam on fruit trees and fruit fly control
Please come and visit, we’ll have the billy boiling for a cuppa all day.
Gold coin donation with proceeds going to Hilton Harvest Community Garden.
