Wilkins Green School and Community Garden 2018

House Notes – Wilkins Green School and Community Garden

Wilkins Green School community garden was established in 2004. All children at Wilkins Public School attend weekly garden education classes. Globe Wilkins Preschool within the school grounds also conducts early and cultural learning. A number of after-school programs visit and use this unique space. TAFE Outreach Petersham regularly host urban food growing and sustainable bushcare courses in Wilkins Green, and many members of the local community join us for working bees on our open garden days held once a month. It is a green oasis within an urban environment.

At the garden you will be able to see:

  • Permaculture vegetable garden
  • Chicken run
  • Fruit orchard
  • Aboriginal walking trail that encompasses fibre, medicinal and bush-tucker plants
  • Bike track
  • Water tanks
  • Storage shed
  • Bush restoration ridge adjoining a native garden
  • Large deck area with kitchenette and a compost toilet made with hempcrete walls.
