Community events are where Sustainable House Day comes to life locally. Below is a list of our 2026 event series.

Back by popular demand – this time in Balwyn! Draughtproofing seals gaps and cracks to prevent unwanted air leaks, helping reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and keep homes more comfortable. Boroondara residents can join our free draughtproofing demonstration to learn how to keep the heat in your home for a more comfortable winter. All attendees will take home free draught‑sealing products to use in their own homes.
Canberra City Farm
This is a demonstration building converted from a metal shed to meet the passive house standard for a retrofitted building. We wanted to show that any existing structure can be transformed to a thermally comfortable, clean, sunny, and healthy building, where virtually no heating or cooling is required. Come along to learn about retrofitting and to enjoy the sensory experience of inhabiting a passive house space.
Join a tour of the Aldinga Arts EcoVillage to coincide with Sustainable House Day!
Villagers will be your tour guides and lead you along the roads and main pathways around the residential areas. The focus will be on sharing information about the sustainable, efficient, climate ready (and beautiful) homes and common areas within the village. There is also an opportunity to tour the village farm and see more permaculture principles in action.
Explore open houses across Nillumbik, VIC on Sustainable House Day. Hear from local homeowners about their efforts to make their homes more comfortable and less expensive to run. You’ll be inspired and gain endless information and tips to help you on your journey.
Australian Institute of Architects – ACT
Join us for an evening of robust discussion on whether sustainable housing can also be affordable and what does that mean? Hear from industry professionals including architects who are featuring projects on Sustainable House Day. Speaker Panel includes: Chris Kornek, Building mechanical engineer, environmental consultant and director at LCI Consultants. Andrew Champness, building airtightness specialist at Champness Constructions. Erin Rogers, emerging designer at Archer Design Studio. Nikki Butlin, architect and interior designer at Trella Architecture and convened by Rob Henry at DNA Architects. With a supporting exhibition from the Australian Zero Carbon Housing Challenge.
COOLmob is a 2026 Sustainable House Day community partner and will be opening homes and gardens in Darwin with sustainable features on Sunday 17 May 2026. Join us for a walking tour, talks, and hands-on workshops on Sunday 17th May 2026.
Step inside some of Darwin’s most inspiring homes and discover how sustainable design can transform the way we live. Join us for a relaxed morning exploring real homes that showcase smart energy use, passive cooling, and tropical garden design that works with the climate—not against it. Choose from two sessions featuring a guided walking tour of local homes and a series of short talks and hands-on workshops led by local experts. Enjoy light refreshments while connecting with others interested in creating more comfortable, affordable, and climate-smart homes.
Join us on Sustainable House Day at Suburban Land Agency’s North Wright Sustainable Precinct display homes. Suburban Land Agency’s North Wright Sustainable Precinct display homes will be open to showcase sustainable living connected to landscape and community on compact blocks. Featuring passive solar design, 7.2 to 8.9 Star NatHERS energy efficiency, airtight envelopes with Heat Recovery Ventilation systems and low-carbon materials. Entries in the Australian Zero Carbon Housing Challenge led by Dr Melinda Dodson, Dr Kevin Miller, and Rob Henry, with support from the Australian Institute of Architects, will also be on exhibit. You can see how this and other low to net-zero carbon residential buildings are accelerating built environment climate action.
Adelaide Sustainable Building Network
The Adelaide Sustainable Building Network’s Sustainable House Day Showcase is back for 2026! (We know this is your favourite event of the ASBN year). At South Australia’s premiere event in association with Sustainable House Day, we will learn about multiple sustainable homes from around the state and meet the architects, designers, builders and owners who have created them. With quick fire presentations along with + q&a time, prepare to be dazzled, entertained and delighted with sustainable home ideas!
Draughtproofing specialists Sapien will show you how to keep out the chill and draught-proof your home. You’ll take home your own draught-proofing starter kit! Tenants Victoria will talk about your rights as a tenant to make energy efficient improvements for a comfortable home. You’ll also learn about the obligations on your landlord, as well as rebates for tenants and landlords to make energy efficient upgrades.
Camberwell Library
A Thermal Efficiency and Building Fabric information session will help you to understand how your home’s structure, including walls, windows, doors, floors and insulation, affects comfort and energy use. You’ll learn how heat is lost or gained through the building fabric, and how simple improvements like sealing gaps, insulation and managing ventilation can significantly increase your homes comfort while reducing your energy bills. This free session focuses on practical actions, showing how you can keep your home warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and reduce reliance on heating and cooling. By improving thermal efficiency, you can lower energy bills, increase comfort year‑round, and reduce your household’s environmental impact.

Anne Kennedy is the Chair of Zero Emissions Noosa – a team with many different projects underway and a great relationship with council. Mark Ellis from Electrify Bouddi will tell their story of starting a community energy group, early priorities and engagement. And Goulburn Solar Farm have been all over the news recently because they have switched on their Solar farm with Battery after a long journey. This forum is part of Noosa Parks Association Friday Environment Forums and is a joint event between Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. and Noosa Parks Association as part of a series of community forums across Australia in the lead up to Sustainable House Day.
Coalition for Community Energy / Energy Together
Join the Coalition for Community Energy for an online tour by Scott Purnell and Brad Trethewey from Essential Energy as they take us through the demonstration future home set up in Port Macquarie. Scott gets to test grid futures both at home and at work. He was featured in an article in The Driven so we’ve invited him to talk to us directly. We will leave plenty of time to ask questions after Scott has shown us some real world results from the home and car technologies that Essential are testing and showcasing.
