Blue Mountains Flame Zone Passivhaus is a great example of how to meet both best practice in terms of comfort, health & efficiency, & in maximum safety in a bushfire prone area.  The house is being built for a couple to both live and work, as well has having friends and family stay over.  
 
It has great views to the east, which are captured by large picture windows to the living room and master bedroom, as well as lots of northern glass to capture the winter sun.  Extra insulation, an internal & external airtight layer, minimisation of thermal bridges, top quality uPVC triple glazed windows & a heat return ventilation system maintain a healthy, comfortable indoor environment year round, using very little energy.
 
As the house needs bushfire shutters to meet flame zone requirements, these are to be utilised for summer shading.  A great way to put a significant cost to use.
 
Some flame zone construction requirements can cause condensation & mould problems.  Mark Davis Design has come up with construction solutions to overcome this.  They have been incorporated into this house to maintain bushfire safety, without compromising the health of the building.
