The focus of this virtual showing is a feature that makes the most of a cool change. During the Adelaide summer a drop in temperature is very welcome. The problem is often that heat has become trapped in a house and it takes a while to cool down. This means active cooling like air conditioners end up staying on longer. One of the design features the architects put into this house is a simple venting system that performs an air exchange. While this is a new build the system can be retrofitted and works particularly well for two story houses where heat gets trapped in upper levels.

The venting system works by pulling hot air from the ceiling and out through a duct in the roof. It has a quiet but powerful 55 watt motor that pulls air from across the house. (If you stand on a ladder directly under it your hair will stand on end.) A window is opened at the furthest part of the house for the vent to pull and circulate cool air inside. Draft proofing the house helps the process otherwise the vent just pulls from nearby rather than across the house. It has either a switch on the wall or is controlled remotely. There is options for automation linked to outside temperature sensors. The beauty of it is the simplicity. While it is much more powerful than a noisy kitchen exhaust or unpowered whirly gig, it is significantly more affordable and compact than a full mechanical ventilation system used in the northern hemisphere.
