About this home

GH63 is a beautiful family home that is designed as a response to the coastal site and surrounding environmental opportunities. The original home was well past its useful life, and so we could site the new home in a way that suited the block shape and orientation.
The orientation and solar access are optimal, as is the natural cross ventilation. All living and bedrooms have Northern access, and all views are of the carefully considered outdoor living landscape. There are no East or West windows in this design.
The programming is simple, and the spaces are appropriately scaled for a busy family. A home office is utilised for regular working from home and homework. Level one houses the kids with their own living space.
The materials palette is warm, textural and robust and features some breeze blocks as internal thermal mass; a little nod to the 60s heritage of the original home.
Most power usage is covered by the PV and battery system, including pool operation.
Whole of house thermal comfort is delivered by the underfloor hydronic heating in winter. In summer, the evaporative cooler assists the natural ventilation of the design on level one.
The house is a beautiful machine for living, and will continue to reduce its overall carbon footprint as the years roll by.
