About this home

The home is part of the Econests pre-designed home initiative and is located in the world-renowned Witchcliffe Ecovillage. From the 'Retreat Collection' this small home lives larger than its physical footprint with high ceilings, wide doors and generous north glazing from most rooms. Made up of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, it also has a multi function room which can be used as an extra bedroom or home office. The open plan living is well sized and makes maximum use of a northern aspect over the deck and exclusive use veggie growing area that each Lot comes with.

The home is all electric, powered by solar panels and battery system, has a 62 000 litre rainwatertank for all potable water, a greywater system and sewerage is treated at the Ecovillage on site treatment plant. Double glazed UPVC windows, high insulation and underslab electric heating and Big Ass fans in all rooms regulate internal temperatures year round without the need for supplemental heating or cooling, Materials used are carefully regulated by the Ecovillage to meet high sustainability criteria and low carbon footprint outcomes.

Q & A

What motivated you to build or retrofit sustainably?
Our clients moved to the Ecovillage for a treechange and to live more sustainably with less ongoing costs. They approached Econests and Tallwood to design and construct their home based on their previous history in the Ecovlllage and the wish to be able to select from a pre-designed series of homes.
The design and specifications ( and high energy rating) made it an easy choice to select and build this home.
