About this home

Set on five acres in the Macedon Ranges, Villa LeStrand is a future-ready home designed to support modern family living while giving back to both its occupants and the environment.

Positioned within easy reach of a railway station and Melbourne Airport, the home balances lifestyle and accessibility with a strong commitment to sustainability and self-sufficiency.

At the heart of the home is an extensive 42kW solar energy system, harnessing the region’s abundant sunshine to power daily life. This renewable energy backbone supports an all-electric household, reducing reliance on external energy sources while delivering long-term cost savings and resilience.

Water security is equally prioritised, with on-site water tanks providing a reliable, independent supply. Set across a generous rural block, the property offers space to live, grow and adapt — creating a lifestyle that is both regenerative and deeply connected to place.

Villa LeStrand demonstrates how thoughtful design and integrated systems can create a home that is not only efficient and future-focused, but also comfortable, practical and enriching for family life today.

Q & A

What motivated you to build or retrofit sustainably?
Resilience, Health, and simply wanting to live the best life on 5 acres
With 40 degree temperatures and black outs happening, we can feel secure with a refrigerated system with heat pump that is powered with solar we will never have to worry again.
Technology always changes, 20 years ago when we started our journey, Ev’s did not exist, nor did the hot water service, heat pumps for cooling heating. The journey over time teaches you knew things, so to wish I knew then what I know now is something that would have saved me money, time and stress, however I would not have made the mistakes, learned from them, met great people along the way and become even stronger in doing so.
To sell this property to a lucky family and start all over again.
